The requirements for industrial practices in the food industry (animal or plant product processing)

Food Engineering BSc – Practice III.

 

Duration of the practice: 5 working days (to be completed during the academic term).

The weekly practice can be completed at: slaughterhouse, meat processing plant, dairy processing plant, milling company, bakery company, confectionery company, soft drink industry, canning company, alcohol-related production plants (distillery, brewery, winery, pálinka distillery), etc.

The student can complete the weekly practice based on their choice, after submitting the "Acceptance Statement" to the Department of Food Science. Those who are unable to secure a practice location can complete their practice at one of the locations recommended by the Department.

Start and end of the practice: According to the work schedule of the practice location, based on prior arrangement, from Monday to Friday. The student can only begin the weekly practice if they possess a valid health book.

During the practice, the student will maintain a written report called the "Attendance and Task Completion Record," in which they will document not only their completed tasks and activities but also their practical experiences. Since the industrial practice in the food industry has an employer-like nature, wearing appropriate work clothing is mandatory. During the practice, the student may participate in production activities under the guidance of the supervising industrial professional; therefore, they are required to learn health and safety regulations before starting the practice.

In the facility, the student will conduct observations and gather information on the following:

  • Forms and methods of raw material procurement, qualification, and preparation for processing,
  • Processes of material handling, storage, and distribution,
  • Products, based on product specifications, 
  • The quality assurance system.

The schedule for the weekly practice and the timing of the reports will be determined by the supervising instructor. Only two students may apply to the same practice location at the same time! Deviations from this rule are only allowed with the permission of the supervising instructor.

After completing the practice, please fill out the "Certification Form" and have it completed by the company, then submit it to the Secretariat of the Department of Food Science within 10 working days following the last day of the practice! (Adress: Lucsony str.15-17. Mosonmagyarovar)

The oral presentation will take place at a time determined by the department during the last 2 weeks of the academic term. Please bring the "Attendance and Task Completion Record" and the certification form with you to the presentation! After the oral presentation is accepted, we will validate the completion of the weekly practice in the Neptun system.
